Meet Skylight's Head of Fixed Income - Mark Jeffries.
We sat down with him to pick his brains and discuss all things Mark...
What is your current role at Skylight? I’m the Head of Product - Fixed Income, and my remit is across both FX and Rates. This includes a wide range of vanilla and exotic products across multiple currencies.
Tell us a little about yourself. I am originally from Australia where I studied and worked for a few years but living and working in finance in London was in my sights from uni days. I arrived here in 2001 after an amazing year of travelling and snowboarding around Canada. I still do some snowboarding but these days you’re more likely to find me motorcycling around the UK and, when time allows, further afield.
What are your currently working on at Skylight? The biggest part of my remit as a Head of Product is the expansion and development of our services. I’ve recently been spending a lot of time working with multiple sets of transaction data, which encompass trades and executable quotes from brokers and trade repositories.
We re-format all of the transaction data so that it can easily be consumed by our clients alongside the consensus results in a single file (or a single page on our website). We also use the data to create reports that calculate observability, liquidity, bid/ask analysis, and validation through back-testing.
And what's your industry experience? I began my career in an FX product control team at a bank in Sydney, where I focussed on P&L and accounting for 4 years. When I arrived in London I spent another 2 years working in accounting control before moving teams and spending 4 years working in a valuation control role covering FX Hybrids and Interest Rate exotics. This role gave me experience in submitting to and consuming consensus data from the customer side.
I’ve now spent 15 years working for consensus providers and have been at Skylight since August 2021. So overall, I have 25 years’ experience across a period that’s covered everything from the dot com bubble to the global financial crisis to the Covid era.
What's the favourite part of your role? That’s an easy one to answer! My favourite part is definitely interacting with clients - whether from a support point of view or expanding the product based upon customer feedback.
I also really enjoy building relationships through events outside of the office such as lunches or inviting clients to sporting events.
